Emily Calaman was born and raised in New Jersey. She first attended Bucknell University in Pennsylvania where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Sociology. She went on to complete the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at MUSC.

While working as a registered nurse at MUSC Children's Hospital, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing at MUSC. She is certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband Len and their four dogs.
