She completed pediatric residency at Maimonides Medical Center and has over 18 years of experience in pediatrics.

Dr. Kara Leann Sturgis earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University in 2001 and her medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2005. She completed her pediatric residency at Maimonides Medical Center from 2005β2008. She has over 18 years of experience in pediatrics and joined Seaside Pediatrics in 2012 before becoming part of Sweetgrass Pediatrics in 2026.
Dr. Sturgis grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and has lived in the Lowcountry area since completing her residency. She enjoys caring for patients of all ages and is committed to supporting children and families through every stage of growth and development. She values building long-term relationships and finds great fulfillment in watching her patients grow over time.
Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Sturgis enjoys reading, traveling, and cheering on her sonsβ sports teams. She is married with two school-age sons and attends Low Country Community Church. She also enjoys learning through trusted pediatric resources such as HealthyChildren.org and KidsHealth.org, and values spending quality time with her family.
