Frequently Asked Questions

Navigating parenthood can be challenging. Our team is here to help answer your questions and guide you in making informed decisions with your child’s health and wellness in mind.

  • What ages of children do you treat?

At Sweetgrass Pediatrics, our providers are experts in care for children from birth through adolescence, including:

    • Newborns & Infants (0–12 months)
    • Toddlers (1–4 years)
    • Children (5–12 years)
    • Teens & Young Adults (13–18 years)

We are proud to continue caring for our established patients through their 21st birthday, supporting a smooth transition into adult care.

  • When should my newborn have their first pediatric visit?

We recommend that newborns have their first pediatric visit within 48–72 hours after leaving the hospital or following a home or birthing center delivery. These early visits are an important opportunity for our providers to check your baby’s weight, feeding, and overall health, as well as answer any questions you may have as you settle in at home.

Our team is here to support you from the very beginning, and we encourage families to schedule this first visit before leaving the hospital—or shortly after delivery for home or birthing center births—to ensure a smooth transition home. Check out our Expectant Mothers page to learn more about the process of getting an infant started at Sweetgrass.

  • What should I bring to my child's first visit?

For your child’s first visit, we recommend bringing your insurance card, a photo ID, and ensure you complete any pre-appointment paperwork via Phreesia. Completing forms in advance helps our team stay up to date on your child’s medical history, preferences, and current needs so we can make the most of your time together.

If you’re bringing a newborn, please bring any hospital or birth records you received, as well as feeding details and all discharge instructions. For families transferring from another practice, we encourage you to have your child’s previous medical records sent ahead of time or bring a copy with you to ensure continuity of care.

  • Do you offer telehealth visits for minor illnesses?

Yes, we offer telehealth visits for established patients for select illnesses and concerns. Telehealth can be a convenient option for certain conditions, allowing your child to be evaluated from the comfort of home. It is also available for certain behavioral health follow-ups and medication management visits.

Appointments can be scheduled through our online platform, or by calling or texting our office. If you’re unsure whether your child’s symptoms or appointment needs are appropriate for a virtual visit, our support team is happy to help guide you to the best care option.

Please note that the patient must be present for the video visit and physically located in the state of South Carolina at the time of the appointment. If these requirements are not met, you may be asked to reschedule.

Additionally, some medical concerns cannot be fully evaluated or treated via telehealth and may require in-person care or diagnostic testing, such as lab work. If needed, you may be directed to one of our offices or an external facility to complete appropriate testing.

  • Do you offer same-day appointments?

Yes, we offer same-day appointments at all Sweetgrass Pediatrics locations and reserve these visits for children with urgent or sick care needs. We make every effort to accommodate same-day visits at your primary location whenever possible. Appointments can be scheduled online, by calling, or by texting our office for added convenience. If availability is limited at your preferred location, our Sam Rittenberg location offers the most flexibility for same-day care, including walk-in visits! In some cases, telehealth may also be an option for same-day concerns, depending on your child’s symptoms. If you’re unsure, our team is happy to help guide you to the best care option.
